Absorbable Suture With Needle Covidien™ Mild Chromic Gut C-1 3/8 Circle Taper Cutting Needle Size 6-0
- Mild chromic gut absorbable sterile surgical sutures are composed of purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from the serosal layer of beef (bovine) intestines. They are packaged in a solution of 87% isopropanol, 12% water, and 1% triethanolamine. Mild chromic sutures are specially treated for ophthalmic and cuticular applications
- Mild chromic gut sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic surgery, but not for use in cardiovascular, neurological or microsurgery
- When Mild Chromic gut absorbable sutures are placed in tissue, a moderate tissue inflammation occurs characteristic of foreign body response to a substance
- This is followed by a gradual loss of tensile strength and suture mass, as the enzymatic process dissolves the surgical gut until it is completely absorbed
